Modern Connectivity In Technology

AltWith today’s modern living, many people would be completely stuck if they did not have certain items to get through the day. This is seen as a massive problem, often by older generations, but for those who use technology up to the point of reliance; advances in technology are great and constantly make life easier.

A prime example of increased use of technology and especially that which connects to other devices, is the mobile phone. The days of huge mobile phones that were used purely for telephoning others are long gone. Even when text messages were introduced, few would have thought we would have in our pockets the vast array of functions in tiny devices. Mobile phones arguably lead the way in connectivity, from early connections made by infra-red to Bluetooth and wireless internet, which can be as quick as wired connections in many locations. As smart phones became more popular, connections between devices wirelessly really took off.

With increased mobile phone production, it has been estimated that this year there will be more mobile phones than people in the world. Figures show that mobile data alone in 2011 was eight times higher than the size of the global internet in 2000, which shows how the increase has taken off.

Firstly connections with people’s personal computers became popular, enabling e-mails and personal messages to be received away from home or the office.

One of the newest technologies that is taking off is the use of smart internet TVs. Wirelessly connecting to home networks, bridging the gap between home computers and televisions. Samsung TVs are leading the way in this technology, with a large array of sets that can connect to the internet to view programmes, view photo’s, home movies and many other uses from other wireless devices.

With all technology, they can be expensive, but as it becomes more readily available and mass produced, it will be available to more people.

The standardisation of certain technological connections has enabled this. There have been a few well documented struggles for dominant technology, such as video tape formats in the 80’s and Blu-ray discs making HD-DVD’s obsolete before they became mainstream.
