Background History of FOSS (Free Open Source Software)
1950: early era embracing computer software development culture together by sharing the program or code. There was no term "open source" because generally when its open source software.
1969: Internet sharing software that facilitates community programs
1976: Bill Gates invites software developers to sell proprietary software licenses.
1980: The copyright law in the USA include software copyrighted by prohibiting copying, use, modify, and distribute the software without the permission of the copyright owner.

1998: The term was popularized as an open source alternative to the term free software.

What if there is no FOSS ?


Without FOSS, many computer systems and applications that we use today are not available, since all the major players in the field of software came from or exploit the creative work of the FOSS community to produce new products, even though the product is not always FOSS.

Linux

Android: name of a type widely known Lintx distro for smart phone, tablets, etc

Repository or Repo Linux: is a storage shed in the form of computer servers in a network, or hard disk, or CD/DVD that contains a collection of programs for a Linux distro.

Repo created to allow users to install or add programs, updates, upgrades.
